Club Rules of Play
Playing at Pomona Valley

Wear you shoe tag.
In order to exercise your rights to court time as a member, you must display your membership tags.

The objective of the club is to give players a reasonable amount of time to play, while to keeping the waiting time as short as possible. In general, you are allowed one hour of playing time, after which you must give up your court if someone is waiting. The following rules state how the one-hour guideline is applied, and we hope that all members will share the courts fairly.

Remember that THERE IS A LIMIT OF FOUR TENNIS BALLS PER COURT, which means that members are ABSOLUTELY NOT ALLOWED to bring BASKETS OR TENNIS BALL HOPPERS down to the courts, even if it is not busy.

Members can reserve courts on a first come, first served basis, with courts being reserved for one-hour time slots. Three courts rotate on the hour (i.e. 7:00 a.m., 8:00a.m., 9:00 a.m. etc.) and the other three rotating on the half hour (i.e. 7:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. etc.). Please use the clock over the Clubhouse door to determine change times.

Booking Procedures

When monitors are on duty, they will assign members court times. When monitors are not on duty, in order to reserve a court, you must sign up on the chalk board, in advance of the time slot, in person with your shoe tag number. You must then remain at the Club to keep your reservation. You may sign up for ONE TIME SLOT ONLY, and you cannot reserve another court while you are already playing.

You must list the membership tag numbers of everyone who will be using the court in the reserved time. You may not reserve courts for singles play if doing so means other players will have to wait more than half an hour for the next available court. If the courts are busy, you must begin and end playing on the scheduled time slots. Once a time period has begun, you cannot jump players who are already on the courts.

If the court you have reserved is vacant before the time slot begins, you may begin to play early. Please: this allowance is not intended to let you book excessive playing time: do not try to gain more than 15 minutes. You can be asked to leave the court in favour of someone else if you are playing before your reserved time slot begins, or else you will lose your reserved time slot.

When you are asked to vacate your court at a switch time, you must leave at once, even if you have not had a full hour of play. You may then sign up for a different court in the time that immediately follows. For example, if you are asked to leave a court at 8:30, you cannot book another court before 9:00.

When booking a court, try to select the court that is being used for singles instead of doubles, non-members instead of members. Try to also avoid bumping the players that have been on for the s hortest time.

Courtesy and Safety Guidelines

Dress appropriately. You must wear tennis shoes (non-marking) and recognized tennis attire. Please do not remove your shirts. Cut off shorts, tube tops and unsafe footwear are not permitted.

Respect other players. Keep your voice low and your vocabulary genteel. Do not call across courts. Do not venture onto other courts to retrieve balls; wait for an opportunity to ask your neighbour. By the same token, return other players' errant balls as soon as their play permits. Use the external paths and gates to get to your court in order to avoid game disruptions. Refrain from eating, smoking, and spitting on the courts. Please turn off your cell phone and pager while playing.

Keep the courts available for members. Members are allowed to bring three guests to the club this year, and each guest can come four times, for a charge of $5 per visit and $2 for under 18. We would be happy to welcome your regular partners as members!

Play safe ! If the courts are wet, use a roller to dry them off before playing. Don't chase balls into the next court. When returning other players' balls, steer them to the back fence or net. Members are not allowed to play with more than 4 tennis balls on the courts.

Help Maintain our courts. Be sure to put your pop cans, ball tubes, wrappers and other waste in the garbage cans. (We recycle pop cans!) Don't play recklessly, to prevent the fences, courts and nets from damage. Please, don't throw your racquets on the ground. Repeated disregard for the Club or its members will result in the cancellation of your membership Our court monitors and club Executive, which includes the Club Pro, can and will enforce all of the club's rules and guidelines.

Please help us keep Pomona Valley Tennis Club a cheerful and friendly place to play. Thank you !
